Should it be an option for repeat child sex offenders get the death penalty?
Answers:
I think it should be. It is a proven fact that pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated. A person can commit murder ONCE and be sentenced to death. Some murderers CAN be rehabilitated and never murder again. Drug dealers get longer sentences than most sex offenders do. I was molested at the age of 14 and the person got ONE year in prison...before being released and repeating the crime again. At the very least, the sentences for sex offenders should be increased. Its a horrible crime that doesn't get punished to the full extent that it should be. It was sooo hard for me at age 14 to admit what had been done to me and to FACE this person again in court...but I did it because I wanted to stop them from doing it to anyone else. Even after all that, the judicial system didn't hold up THEIR end and the person victimized yet another child after me. That shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
yes
Hell Yes! they should be castrated and hung from the highest tree on the FIRST offense.
Actually, I think we should use them for medical experiments.and no, I'm not kidding. At least they could contribute something positive to society that way. F*ing pervs.
Yes, I would have no problem with that. Get a petition going for that to be a law. I will be the first to sign it.
yes for the good of society
I think the first offense is one too much. kill them instantly. Hell yeah. Freaking Perverts.
Sure!! These people should not be allowed to do this to children over and over!!
Yes. Like it or not, government is responsible to a certain degree, if it wishes to survive, for maintaining moral boundaries. If you disagree, ask a Roman.
Pedophiles are every bit as able to stop themselves as I am from attacking whomever I find attractive, and so far, I haven't attacked any. Pedophilia is a decision, and certain decisions result in forfeitures. In the case of the repeat pedophile, the death sentence should be on the table.
Of course, then you'd have to find a judge who actually thinks pedophilia is a serious crime, which is getting more and more difficult.
You make the classic slippery slope argument here. The death penalty is confined to the most horrible crime, the killing of another. Once you start expanding it, where does it stop. I understand that your question refers to repeat child sex offenders. How many times do commit the crime before you are put to death? If we say 3 times, it will end up being only once. It still won't stop people from preying on children.
Is sentence for a crime intended to be a punishment, a repayment, or rehabilitation. It is all of these in my opinion. I don't personally support the death penalty for many reasons that are not important to your question. I am sure my views would change if a member of my family were murdered. I don't know.
I say no on the death penalty for the sex offender. Now it is possible to have them locked away forever, even after their sentence is up. Many states have used the guise of treatment to continue holding someone. This has been upheld in the courts.
Just like cutting of a hand of a thief, you can't take it back and it doesn't fix the problem or undo the harm.
I would say start with tougher sentances first, none of this 18 mos to be served in the community crap.
A second offence should warrant an automatic life sentance with no chance of parole. ( I say second offence since, like all other crimes, it has been known to happen that people are wrongfully convicted.)
I'd almost worry about a death penalty, because if they cannot control their urges and think "Oh crap, now I am gonna get the chair". They may think their chances are better if they kill their victim so as to not get caught. Or, if killing or violence is part of their fantasy, they could reason that it is the same punishment so might as well kill them.
No. Life in prison sounds good, though.
I know what people are going to say, but it's actually cheaper to let someone live in prison than to execute them. As much as we all hate child molesters, an innocent person could still be convicted.
There should definitely be much more strict policies. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone can molest a child and get out after one year. That child is going to have psychological issues for the rest of his or her life.
I live in Arkansas. One guy went to prison for molesting his stepchildren. The mother died and the children ended up in foster homes. Then the stepfather got out of prison and sued for custody; yes, the judge actually gave those children to the man who had molested them.
There are no words that can describe how horrific that must be for those children.
That itself would be cruel and inhumane punishment. I am totally against sex offenders being released to commit another act because it is a fact that they are not easily rehabilitated. It should be the one crime that one strike and you are in jail or a mental health facility to keep you out of trouble or to let a recurrence occur. If they only knew the true amount of damage they did to their victims they would not want to be free out roaming for their next victim. Also a lot of sex offenders use sexual abuse of children as a stepping stone to murder. Sad, but true!
No, because what is death going to solve? They should just be locked up for life to think about what they have done.
