I am the daughter of a deceased mother who applied for disability.?

My mother was disable and had an attorney working to prove her case in determining disability. Before she could get a chance to be awarded she died...I contacted the lawyer to inform him of her death and he had me file substitute of party to see if I could be awarded for just the back pay since it was entitled to her while informing me that he could prove her case they were not going to award me backpay because I wasn't a minor or in high school @ age19 at the time she filed for disability but I was in college at that age and had to use her income tax as a dependant. Does anyone have any suggesting ..do I have a change pls give me advice...?

the Law is the Law.

i'm sorry about your mother

You fall right into a hard age, they will probably say since you are in school that you can support yourself and will not grant you any back pay, however, if you get a good lawyer, he may be able to get it for you since your mom used you as a deduction on her taxes, I would not count on it though...sorry
I hate to say it but because you are not a minor they dont really care about that.ssi is really trying to keep money not give it away and because your mother is deceased the case will be close because she is the one with the disabilitynot you
