Did I get scammed?!?
I was looking for a job in the paper and came across an ad to work for the USPS. I called and it sounded like a great oppertunity so I registered for the test. They said I would be charged a refundable $99 and a non- refundable fee of $23 for shipping and handling and cost of the study materials. Please tell me this sounds right!

In a way you did. They may have a legitimate prep tests for the Postal Service but you can find the jobs under government websites and there is no charge ever for taking a test. The most important thing for the post office test his memory so if you can do anything to increase your memory you're currently better off basically they just give you a list of addresses and then you have to write them down after looking at them. Or they give you a list and you have to memorize them and then they will give you another list and you have to mark the numbers that are not there. Good luck
Doesn't sound right to me. I have never heard of the government charging for a job opportunity with them.

so a search for federal employment, or look through the USPS website. All the information you need to apply and test for employment with the USPS is FREE.
I hope you didn't do this. You can get a study book at the bookstore yourself.

It is a scam. You can apply directly to the USPS, either in person or on line.
Notify the advertising department of the newspaper, so they can pull the ad.

It's a rip off, you can apply online directly to the USPS website and get a test appointment and not be charged any fees. The test is easy if you have a basic knowledge of math, geography & written English.

Afraid so. The government never charges for job placement tests. That goes for any jobs, period.
It's a scam you can get information about jobs at the USPS for free and you can get information about the test for free too. Email me if you want the link. I'll have to find it again and I'm not going to waste my time if you don't want it.
it almost certainly is a scam amanda-stay away!!-any genuine employer looking for employees will NEVER take money for job opportunities-go look somewhere else-i beleive in the saying "if it sounds too good to be true-it usually is..

It sounds like a scam to me.
You should take the ad to your local post office, and ask the Post Master to pass it along to the Postal Inspectors.
You should also askd the Postmaster (that's the person who is the manager at the post office), what is the process for applying to work for the postal service.
Here is the USPS web site where they have infor about careers with the US Postal Service. See if you can find anything there about this alleged study test thing.
