How do you handle conflicts with your immediate supervisor?
Answers:
I don't really have an option. I'm the general manager of the place where I work and the only person above me is the owner/president. So it's basically a matter of I either accept what he wants or I look for another job. The good news is I've been working for him for over 8 years and I consider him a friend. We also seem to think along the same lines in a lot of situations so there usually isn't much conflict.
Everyone has a boss, even the owner...
The owner's boss is called the consumer.
Try talk to him over the issue, if he does not agree, then address it with the next level in the hierarchy
I kidnap their house plants.
,
Try to talk to hom like a pro if that does not work tell him you want to see the big boss if that does not work tell him to kiss your *** an go see the big boss
he tells me what his "beef" is, and i tell him if he can do anything about it...assuming we can't reach a satisfying solution first
That's a really broad question. But for starters, any disputes between a supervisor and a subordinate must strictly be handled in a private manner. Any boss who criticizes or berates you right in front of your coworkers (or you complaining about him in front of other workers) is unprofessional behavior that's automatically out of line. And if you need to discuss a problem with a boss, it's best to find a time when he's not too busy or even ask him to schedule a time to have a meeting with him. That way neither of you will be caught off-guard, and it shows you mean business but without seeming threatening to him.
Apparently you do not have the same job I do. In my line of work you talk to them and if that doesn't work then it gets physical. Since it is not the approved method of the mngmt. we go outside the area of the job and then when it is over you go back to work, With all the BS about our way of life they have tried to run all of us old-school types out. This tactic has amounted to a far less productive work force with few experienced men to teach the new kids. Now they have set up a mandatory schooling for a job that should be taught on site. This is one reason your gas & oil is rising!!!
