Redeployment law within local government undergoing restructure?

I will keep this brief 12 years within Local Authority then restructure informed my current post being deleted though up till xmas 2006 was verbally informed (as were my colleagues but nowt in writting) that we would assimulate into new identified role. After Xmas the story changed to say that our post were being deleted, but told that other jobs we could apply for but would be other people in frame also and not enough jobs for every one !
Up shot been told not successful for new job within restructure post and yet have been offered 6 month tansient role to support my colleagues who are in stage 2 (next for restructure) have recd letter informing of poss to appeal against selection process within 5 days and if interest in transient role. Union rep not available as on leave managers aware of this. Have not had implications of what new terms would be don't want to loose redundancy rights. shud i take or go straight into redeployment pool to maximise finding permanent job within my cond?

Answers:
From what I recollect as a former Shop Steward would think they have to offer you a similar job within organisation at same hours and pay but before you accept please go to your local Citizens Advice if not in a union
