What do you think of the Health insurance now?

Now if a person is over weight ~ they can expect to "pay" the price for it? I feel this is just another way to get money! It's discrimination to my way of thinking. Just wondering what others thought about it.

Answers:
Health insurance premiums are based on expected claims.

On average, people who are overweight have more medical problems (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes) than people of average weight. Also, people who smoke have more medical claims than non-smokers. Non-smokers and people of average weight who incur little in medical expenses are upset that they are subsidizing the cost of people who are overweight so some employers who offer group health insurance and insurance company that sell individual heath insurance are adding a surcharge for those people who are overweight or smoke.

An insurance company has to taken in more money than it pays out. It is simple business. I don't know if most people are aware that insurance companies do not make a profit on health insurance. It is for this reason many insurance companies no longer offer health insurance. (Among other products, insurance companies make a profit on life insurance.)

While I generally don't like government programs, I am beginning to believe the only way to provide basic medical care to all Americans is a government-sponsored plan. 45 million Americans don't have any health insurance.

What is that who has it
Heathcare in the USA is broken and it won't really start to get fixed until 2009 when we swear in a Democratic President.
Health insurance should be for catastrophic health situations that people would not be able to pay. It should not be for ordinary run-to-the doctor kind of things. If health insurance were designed properly, it wouldn't be nearly as expensive.
And if people were paying out-of-pocket for their ordinary doctors' visits, health care wouldn't be nearly as expensive.
Pass the loser pays law and health insurance will drop to an affordable price
