Is it illegal to smoke if you are 18 in alabama? i know it is illegal to buy them.?
everyone has always told me that it was legal to smoke cigarettes if you are 18 you just cant buy them till your are 19 i argued with a police officer about this and he told me he would write me a ticket for smoking but never did if it was really illegal wouldn't he write me a ticket?

You can't purchase them at 18, but you can have them on you or smoke them at 18, don't ask me why!
I know people that live in AL and buy cigs at 18. Don't know what the deal is.

I stand corrected. Just looked this up and Alabama, Alaska, & Utah - legal smoking/buying age is 19. Hmmm..
You can buy and smoke cigarettes in AL at 18. You just can't smoke in resturaunts and stuff.
Smoking is nasty
In Alabama, Alaska, New Jersey, Utah, and Nassau, Suffolk, and Onondaga counties in New York the legal smoking and purchasing age is 19. This means you can not legal buy or smoke them under the age of 19.
Texas just agreed to raise the age from 18 to 19 there, which will take effect sometime in the near future. Many states are currently in legislation
to raise that age to 21.
Save yourself some money, don't smoke!
