Does anyone realize that the government works for us?
We elect them, we pay their wages, so in fact we are their boss. So why do we not protest collectively when they do things we don't like?

the only time they really work for us is on elections,but really ,life is just to hard to care about who is screwing who in washington,...lol

It's just the elected officials who don't care.
The get into office and then the MONEY starts flowing.

in reality, its a process, that until we get organized and protect together, will continue being a process that is more controlled over by the lobbyists and the people with influence rather than you and me.
So start assembling!!
because to get anything done it would have to be collectively and that is hard to organize.
For example people got together and so we will no wear helmets on our motorcycles and the people won.
But we (the people) wont get together and so no we wont wear seatbelts.
Or gas needs to be lowered.
Or we want vouchors to send our kids to private schools.
Collective is the key word in your question
Because we - the sheeple - are too damned lazy to do anything about it.
If everyone is not in the politicians' faces all the time - writing, calling, etc... then you got no right to complain. Don't be satisfied with saying "well, I voted..." It doesn't stop there!
Until the people ('scuse me, the sheeple) get off of their collective fat butts and away from the TV and their latte's, then this country is gonna get everything it deserves.
