Iowa gun laws?
I'm going on a business trip to iowa.Is OK to keep a handgun in my hotel room?
Answers:
For all intents and purposes, when you have a hotel room, you are renting a living space. It is not really any different from you own home. Therefore it is legal for you to have the gun and it does not have to be exposed. You can keep it in a drawer or what ever.
You will have more issues pertaining to getting to the hotel room and back home than with being in the room itself. Travel with a firearm can be tricky in some states.
The following is from an officail web site from the state of Iowa.
"Legally Transporting Handguns, Rifles and
Shotguns in Motor Vehicles Without a Permit
to Carry
An unloaded handgun may be transported in a
closed and fastened container or securely
wrapped package which is too large to be
concealed on a person, or inside a cargo or
luggage compartment where the handgun is not
readily accessible to any person in the vehicle."

Good luck!
You can have a gun as long as you have a permit and it is not concealed.
I believe this Iowa Statute pertains to your question.

I'm not a lawyer but after reading the above statute, I think the short answer to your Q is "yes". It seems that section 4.a,e,& f are pertinent to your question. The motel room is your "home" for a brief time. Carry the unloaded gun in a locked case when you transport it in your car and to the room.
