Why do some politicians think you have to be an extremist on certain issues?
like abort or the death penalty. I've heard a few times them say you are either for abortion or against it, or for the death penalty or against it. I accually have a variety of view on both issues depending on the circumstances.
With abortion I have no problem with terminating a pregnancy in the first trimester. In the second trimester there should be some restrictions because it is still unkown how much pain the fetus experiences. In the 3rd trimester there is nothing that could jusify such an act except severe birth defects and anything after the 8th month is just plain murder.
When people ask me if I'm for the death penalty I say ' only of the guilty' because this is the main issue. Our justice system isn't perfect so we should require that only those with at least 2 convictions be eligable for the death penalty and each conviction require at least 2 coloborating witnesses. If this were the law then I would have no problem expanding the death penalty to other.
Answers:
Your idea about corroborating witnesses is problematic. Why not take a look at the Innocence Project, www.innocenceproject.org and click on Know the Causes.
Right off the top I found 3 cases where at least 2 witnesses misidentified an innocent defendent. There are lots of other reasons for wrongful convictions leading to death sentences, including false confessions, unreliable science, miscondicuct by forensic scientists and the government, informants, snitches and just plain bad lawyers. All these things (and more) should be fully addressed before we should even think about expanding the death penalty.
I would be happy to continue a dialogue about this with you.
so they can trick you into voting for them then invade countries for resources and do nothing about what you voted for them in the first place
