Am I entitled to get paid for attending staff meetings at work?

I work for an hourly wage (not a salary). Am I entitled to be paid for time spent sitting at a staff meeting?

Answer:
Was the meeting mandatory?

Depending on your state's wages and hours laws, in general, yes. If your employer requires you to attend a meeting as a condition of your employment, you are entitled to get paid.

However, each state varies in its laws.
When I worked for an hourly wage, I had to clock in for any staff meetings. I believe that it is law that you get paid for these kinds of things if you are hourly. It is the company's time and the company is asking you to come in to work by going to the staff meeting.
It may depend on your state, but in Texas you must be paid for staff meetings if you are an hourly employee.
You should if it was longer or up to an hour and they forced you to go! - MM
yes
YES. If it required as part of your employment then any and all time spent at work is to be paid.
If it was mandatory for you to be there then probably yes.

You might want to check the Federal Labor Laws and those of the state you reside in before you make an issue of it though.
If you were specifically asked to attend this meeting, then I would say yes.
If these meetings are not to your benefit why are you attending them refuse to attend or get them to arrange them in your paid time
Those who stated it varies by state are incorrect. State labor laws do vary, but your case is covered by Federal labor laws. If you are required to attend the meeting, you must be paid for the time. If the meeting is optional, I am not sure.
If it is for you or your works benefit that you attend, then yes they do have to pay you as overtime or give you the equivalent time in leau.

if they ask you to come in unpaid then refuse to do it.
If the meeting was mandatory then yes!
