What a nightmare!?

We were bought out by my husbands ex partner 3 years ago it was a nasty experience he resorted to many illegal tactics and I was so glad to be rid of him. RECENTLY he was audited and just not having an accountant at the time we did not know we had to pay capital gains on the money we were given for our stocks. When the IRS sent over his
copy of the general release he altered the paperwork to appear that we had received MUCH less $$$ than we did.
He also forged my husbands sig. and gave it to the IRS
agent.
At the time the company was supposedly in the red and not
worth anything. How much trouble is he in? I have all the
original documentation proving his attempted evasion.
Should we sue?? Suggestions??

Answers:
Contact a tax attorney in your area at the site below. This could have tax implications for you. If you are somehow harmed by this, you can sue. However, the real danger to you is that you will be audited and have to hire attorneys or accountants to prove what happened. Don't go to the attorney to hurt the expartner; go to protect yourself

See a lawyer on tax law and Bussiness or Corp law you may have a case. You will at least need to let the IRS know that he has done this and you will need a lawyer advice for that os you don't step in any holes.
You use the word "he" an awful lot and I have trouble determining which "he" is the ex partner and which "he" is your husband. But from what you said, the ex partner claims that you recieved much less from the sale of the business than you actually did. It seems to me he did you a favor. Would that not mean you had a lower capital gain and therefore owe less tax? What would you sue him for?
