Music piracy or organized crime?
Do companies like "CD Tradepost" who buy and sell used cd's pay royalties? should they? if they gave the cd's away would they still have to pay them, and what about garage sales.
anyway thats all i got. what do you think?
Answers:
No such thing. You don't have to pay any royalties for re-selling used CDs. The damn RIAA tried to get a law passed some years ago requiring it, but congress thankfully turned them down. I believe the same situation happened in Britain and a few other countries as well. When you buy a CD, it's legally considered "chattel" and you own it outright. It's just like buying a book or any other kind of merchandise. When you're done using it you can re-sell it, give it away, throw it out, burn it, or do anything you like with it - except copy it.
