Yes. People abuse their sick days. Where I work, if you are out sick more than three days, you must have a doctor's note to return to work. You have to call in every day and report being off unless it's an extensive period and then you have to file FMLA paperwork.
Yep written up is a slap on the wrist compared to getting fired.
What do you mean exactly, "entitled"? Excessive absenteeism will get you written up every time.
