Are homemade smokebomb's illegal?

Are you nuts? Home made bombs are illegal and havng the components to make a bomb (smoke or otherwise) can get you in a federal prison...let it go.
Maybe in some places, but not as far as I know. You can legally buy smokebombs from novelty stores, flea markets, or through mail order catalogs, the reason being that a smoke bomb is neither an explosive nor an incendiary device. It's kind of in the same classification as sparklers, and is just considered a gag product. You can easily find instructions on how to make them openly posted on the Internet on websites whose owners wouldn't dream of dealing with weapons or real bombs (hint: film canisters make for the stinkiest ingredient). However, depending on how or where you set one off you could be breaking a law or three.
