In New Jersey, what rights do I have when I turn 18?

I just turned 18 and am going to be a senior in high school. I want to move out and already have a place to say, but my grandparents who have custody of me say that I can't because they basically own me until I graduate. Living in Jersey is this true? I thought when you turn 18 that you can leave as you please. They have had custody of me since I was seven. Can I move out? What are my rights? And are there any documents stating my rights?

Like the first poster said, since you're 18, you can do as you please.

But where on earth are you going to get the money to live? Since you're 18, they don't have to give you one red cent for anything.

Good luck with that.

actually, once you are 18 you are legally an adult. So technically you can do whatever you want, but I would refrain if you think they might cut you off...what is another few months at home anyway?
Well I'm from alabama and I wanted to get my own apartment soon as I hit 18, but every place i looked into told me I had to be 19, boy was I pissed. But if you find a place thst you can get into and a job and school, go for it. Also if you didn't know until you 23 or 24 you need your parents tax returns and what not for finacial aid, its a bit difficult without them. Good luck!
