How can I find out info about Official Misconduct for a Police officer?
Is there a public source available to find out the professional record or background of a police officer? Or is this only available through a motion put in place by an attorney?
Answers:
If an officer has been cited for, or convicted of, official misconduct, that fact is a matter of public record. Contact the law enforcement agency in question or go to your local courthouse.
First, you would need to file a complaint through the State that this occurred. There is Board for such complaints but, then will not provide you with any information. However, in the event that there are other complaints made against this officer, then that will warrant an investigation. Or, you take the officer to civil court to state your case. Civil Suit. Be sure that your information is accurate, specific and arranged by order of the misconduct. Bring any witnesses' that can collaborate your case. I'm not sure of the actual Board that you should contact. There is a Board of Medicine for medical people, there is a Board of Law ( to file complaint against lawyers etc.) You could always go to your local court and speak to a court clerk. He/she maybe able to tell you the Boards' actual title. I hope that has helped and Good Luck.
You can file a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request with the government entitiy he/she works for. All that information is public. A FOIA request can be as simple as a handwritten note on a piece of paper that accurately describes what records you are looking for. Bring it to your city/township and they should forward it on to the city/township attorney. It might cost you a few bucks for copying fees, but that is it.
i dont know
