Is it legal for a minor who has been emancipated to marry someone over the age 18?

Is it legal for a minor who has been emancipated to marry someone over the age 18? Just wondering because once emancipated aren't they considered an adult, and not a minor any longer?

Answer:
I really think the age difference laws supercede your emancipation rights. You have the right to some things but probably not that.

depends on where you live
yep because when you are emancipated the law considers you an adult, and an adult can enter into contracts which marriage is considered a contract.

And those that give me a thumb down are idiots. Go back to school and learn about the law.
Depends on the state. Some of the Southern states would consider her an "old maid" at fifteen.
im pretty sure you can...you can get married as a minor as long as you parents give consent...if you are emancipated you should be ok.id call your local court house.
I wouldn't think so. This is probably one of those "hard" laws, like legal drinking or gambling age. It doesn't matter if, for all other purposes, you'd be an "adult." You'd probably be considered an adult for the purposes of actually getting married (e.g. getting the license and such) but to actually go through with it you'd be seen as a minor and the groom would probably be in some sort of legal trouble for it.

If you're really curious I'd say ask a lawyer. Might be able to find one on the various "Ask an Expert" sites on the web somewhere that would answer it.

Good luck!
Check with Your state but i do not think so .
I think so
Once emancipated you are considered a legal adult. However, there are things you may not be able to do such as voting, drinking alcohol, purchase tobacco, pornography, lottery tickets, and firearms, etc.

In most states, the three circumstances in which a minor becomes emancipated are: (1) enlisting in the military [requires parent/guardian consent], (2) marrying [requires parent/guardian consent], (3) obtaining a court order from judge [obviously does not require parent/guardian consent].

Each state has their own laws about emancipation.

But yes, generically someone who is like 16 or 17 can marry someone who is 23.
