How should I approach my boss this evening when I go into work?

There is some bitterness with my boss and I ever since I was falsely accused of stealing over the phone this past Monday. I have been so angry and want to just go off on her but that won't do any good. I have been debating whether or not to ask her to resign or pursue legal action against her for this situation

FIRST TO JAKE, YOU CAN SUE YOUR PART-TIME EMPLOYER for bad mouthing you to other employers. THEY ARE NOT ALLOW TO GIVE A DEROGATORY REFERENCE THEY ARE ONLY ALLOW TO SAY YOU DID WORK THERE.

I WORKED FOR UNEMP. COMP AND EMPLOYMENT OFC. FOR OVER 20 YEARS. If you, for instance, stole something from the company they can only say "you worked there" IF THEY DIDN'T PROSECUTE YOU THEN other employers will never know, but if they did then other employers will find out through fingerprints.

I WOULD CERTAINLY GET A LAWYER OR CALL SOME LAWYER THAT GIVE FREE INFO OVER THEPHONE.
==============================...

HOW TO APPROACH YOUR BOSS..gingerly, or not at all!

PEOPLE ARE SOOOOO CRAZY these days. Last week, A BOSS JUST SHOT AND KILLED TWO OF HIS WORKERS BECAUSE THEY ASKED FOR A RAISE. Your boss may not be that drastic but one never know what could develop.

I WOULD FOLLOW the advice of the person who told you to go in say nothing. LEAVE IT UP TO YOUR BOSS TO BRING IT UP BECAUSE IF THEY REALLY BELIEVE YOU STOLE SOMETHING FROM THE COMPANY OR CO-WORKER, THEY WILL FIRE YOU. AS LONG AS YOU CONTINUE TO WORK YOUR CO-WORKERS MUSTKNOW THAT THE boss LIED ON YOU OR ELSE WHY ARE YOU STILL THERE. So play the same game, if they say nothing you say nothing but MOST DEFINITELY, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING...times you were absent, or late, times she called YOU in unnecessarily, times she accused you of things you couldn't have done, names and times of co-workers who make same complaints, or things they overheard about her concerning you, get times she was late, absent,...EVERY THING SHOULD HAVE MO, DATE, YR AND TIME OF DAY.
KEEP IT SECRETLY... nooooooo one should know you have it and be careful NOT to leave it in your desk drawer of blotter or tool kit or wherever on the premises. best to put info on scrap paper then keep in wallet until you get home and transfer info to a book or notepad on your computer. NEVER, NEVER put such info on your computer at work if you use computers. COMPANIES CAN READ EVERY WORD YOU WRITE AS YOU WRITE.Don't tell co-workers you are documenting "stuff".if she continues to harass you, YOU CAN SUE for DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER and FALSE ACCUSATIONS..

JUST GO TO WORK THIS EVENING AND BE COOL.

good luck

As your supervisor she should calm the waters. Wait a while and hope this all blows over. If you lose your job based on a false accusation you may have a legal case, document everything.
Talk to your human resource director first
I would ask to talk and then have her explain why you were accused and then go from there as to what action to take
I don't know man..I'm retired and I got a part time job and got into with my boss and from what I understand is that the employer can fire you without any reason except discrimination..My boss fired me because he didn't like me and now it's on my work record..I worked for the company that I retired from for 31 years without any problems and a flunky part time job went against my record..it isn't fair but what can you do..I decided to go back to work fulltime and the companies that I applied to called me and told me that they wouldn't hire me because of that stupid part time job..I've decided to just enjoy retirement
Unless your boss told other people, I don't think you have much of a case as far as defamation (libel and slander) goes.

An essential part of defamation is that it must be communicated to a third party. Someone can insult you all they want in private.

Sounds like it is time for you to start looking for another job. You don't need to work for someone like that.
It's a very uncomfortable situation, because when trust is lost it's hard to gain it back.
The thing here is that you were falsely accused, and that sucks!! Can you investigate a little more on about who did it? how it happened, try to find proof, you know who you can trust to help you gather information, ( never tell on this person who helped you...) and after you have the facts, ask for a meeting with your boss and then the other person will be called and things will be clarified and your name will be clean. If you boss refuses, explain that you don't appreciate that co-workers thing you are a thieve!, cause they look at you already weird! (you have to exagerate a little bit, so your boss feels forced).
If he still thinks that nothing will be done, then ASK HIM TO ANNOUNCE your innocence and the terrible mistake the company did towards you in front of everybody.
Meanwhile, do you job, like nothing happened, you don't act rude or anything because you are innocent!! and you don't go traumatized for something you did not do.
IF they let you go without a clear poor work pefrormance and / or an acceptable reason..then my friend...you seek legal action. You have to clean your name! You don't take action against you Boss, but against the Company.
