Why are brothels illegal in almost every state?
I see nothing wrong with brothels as long as the clients and consumers are tested for stds and wear sufficient protection. I know thats easy to regulate so that can't be the reason. Its the womans choice to work there and the consumers choice to go there. I see nothing wrong with brothels as long as they are clean and follow guidelines plus it works in Las Vegas. What do you all think?

I agree, this nation is ridiculously backwards when it comes to this issue, but not without some reason. Prostitution has traditionally been seen as nothing more than a public nuisance. I can understand if people don't want brothels operating right next door to their homes, or hookers working the streets right in front of business owners and their clients. And then there's the public health problem. Community residents are the ones calling the cops and complaining when they see it in their neighborhoods, it's not like the government got together with all the churchy prudes and just made up these vice laws simply to ruin people's fun.
However, I think it's time we started getting a little more progressive about it, because ultimately nobody has a right to tell consenting adults what they can or can't do as long as they're not really bothering anybody. We can have zoning laws that restrict brothels from operating in residential areas or near schools, and locate them in industrial areas or outside the city limits. We can have health ordinances that require prostitutes to get regular medical checkups, and subject brothels to periodic inspections. The industry can be taxed, and prostitutes can have a safe and clean environment to work in where they have all the same legal rights as any other employees (such as minimum wage, the right to unionize, OSHA protections, anti-harrassment laws, etc). Currently, these women are defined as criminals so they have no legal rights at all and no place where they can work without risking getting hurt or even killed. And if some husbands choose to cheat on their wives by going to these prostitutes, then that's only a private civil matter and not something the police should have to stick it's nose into. Face it, there's no way we're going to get rid of prostitution, so we might as well legalize and regulate it. Hey, it works in Nevada and Amsterdam.
quite honestly, there is enough infidelity without making it soooo each to cheat. We have become a nation that is morally bankrupt already...why add fuel to the fire
Because this country is known as America and not Sodom or Gomorrah. If you had a daughter, would you want her to work in a brothel? If so, your child will be one screwed up kid.
The only problem with it that I see is the Liberals will find a new means of taxing sex. We really don't want them taxing sex and given this opportunity they will.
The USA may not have been founded completely by Puritan pilgrims, but they certainly had a strong voice, and we've been kind of, well, PURITAN ever since. That means we have laws against things that really shouldn't be that big a problem between consenting adults--laws against prostitution, against sodomy in some states, against recreational drugs, during Prohibition against liquor, against nudity, etc.
In the USA, we can't have nudity on our network TV shows, but we can show cop characters shooting people left, right, and sideways. In many other countries, for some reason, they find the shooting of people (even imaginary) for entertainment more disturbing than a naked person. Go figure.
Actually, brothels are illegal in Vegas. They are not illegal in Nye County.
I think that it would be a good tax base for many cities that are not so closed minded. Prostitution will never go away, so might as well have the tax benefit and the health dept. involved.
If STD's are easy to control, then why don't you go over to Africa and solve their AIDS crisis? Think before you speak.
It's the LAW!
I get it enough from the government, don't need to pay for more
I agree! If you are a willing participant this is your own private choice. To the person up there if your spouse is going to cheat they will cheat regardless. At least making it legal and regulated would be a safer environment.
It does not work in Las Vegas. Why do you think so many hookers are still doing the streets there? Working in a regulated brothel, being taxed, and having to register in almost every police department does not worth the effort to them.
I agree with you. However it is not legal in Las Vegas. No where in Clark County. It is legal in Pahrump, NV. That is about 50 miles or so from LV and in a different county.
I agreed. Also, you can tax the ladies and take a bite out of crime as well. Another benefit, keep the adult entertainment industry in certain areas and you can keep a better watch on them.
