Smoking ban yes or no you give the answer?
there is no proven medical evidence that i have seen or heard of that shows that smoking cigarettes causes major health problems the government added 50p to the price of a packet of cigarettes which was directed to the nhs to help towards nhs costs in general why was that so if the government lose the revenue from cigarettes for the nhs where are they going to take it from in the future
Answers:
You haven't been paying much attention the last 20 or 30 years have you?
None that you have seen, because you haven't ever tried looking?
You've really had your head in the sand if you've seen no medical evidence that smoking causes major health problems. I think the current efforts--banning smoking from public places and taxing the cigarettes, rather than banning them outright--is the best solution.
Yes. Just quit. Say no to dangerous drugs.
Smoke if you want, just do not blame anyone when you get lung cancer later in life.
No.
No one has ever been forced to enter or work at a privately owned establishment that allows smoking.
You make a choice to enter these establishments and therefore you choose to breathe second hand smoke.
The entire argument about subjecting others to second hand smoke becomes irrelevant when you realize that you have a choice not to go to places that allow smoking.
------------------------------...
Wow, look at the thumbs down from people that are against taking responsibility for their own choice of entering a smoking allowed establishment.
Only a fascist pig would tell a private business owner what he can and cannot do within the confines of his own business.
yes and im a smoker, i simply stopped going to the pub and saved money that way instead.
they will take the tax out fo your pocket like always, income tax will rise
Smokers all live in denial, thats WHY they smoke. You have just given credence to my scientific study proving this.
It should be up to the individual people and business. If a business allows smoking then so be it. If you don't smoke then find somewhere else to go.
It is about choice and as a smoker I think they should have left us alone to die of cancer. Let's hope nobody dies at all.
Smoking doesn't cause major health problems? What have you been smoking? When people smoke around me, it worsens my asthma. Smoking does cause low birth weight: my mother smoked while pregnant with me and I was only 5 pounds when I was born and I was two weeks late! Yes, there should be a smoking ban because smoking actually does worsen the health of the person next to you, unlike alcohol.
i say ban it. I'm a smoker, but I think it's rude for people to smoke in public places. I smoke by choice, i have no right to force others to inhale the same toxins.
I don't smoke and am all for smoking bans. If you do not think there is any proof of the dangers of smoking, you have obviously never read any medical journals. Just go to the nearest university library and do a search in the journal room and you will find plenty of proof. Though, I suspect you will not do this as you probably don't want to find any proof and would just rather life in denial.
There is competing evidence on the severity of smoking caused illnesses. Compare studies in the UK to the US. Many foreign doctors proffer that the interaction of the perservative laden drinks and foods, combined with the not-too-regulated newer designer drugs, work to elevate the United States cancer numbers, as in Europe, the population both DRINKS ALCOHOL and SMOKES CIGARETTES, in far greater numbers than the US, yet Europe has far less Cancer patients.
I ain't a doctor, and when I had to have half of my thyroid removed last year (at age 28), I decided to quit cigarettes (been smoking since I was 12). Can still hold my breath for over one and a half minutes under water, and my sense of taste and smell have returned: however, I feel we US citiznes are not being told the whole truth.
you'll soon find out when Brown starts getting his feet under the table and as far as health risks your not listening so walk into a hospital in the ward where folk are gasping for breath and they'll convince you what smoking does
You need to get that butt out of your head, or the other way around.
I've just watched someone die from lung cancer. If you want to experience that, then carry on smoking. You won't like it I promise.
There is an enormous body of medical evidence that supports the case for smoking causing a large number of medical complaints from lung cancer and heart disease to bad skin and breath.
You have a choice in whether or not to smoke - if you don't want to pay the tax then give up. Its a no-brainer. But I think you've answered your own question; if smoking were banned and the government lost the revenue from the sale of cigarettes, then the NHS would eventually not need the extra money due to the massive improvement in health that it would create. That said, I'm sure most smokers would find other ways of killing themselves, given that to start in the first place is indicative of a fairly limited intellect.
Health problems..Superstitious nonsense
FACTS:
The Tax/duty collected from smoking exceeds the NHS outlay on people who smoke by 7:1
People die of terminal ilnesses if they don't smoke...shock! Horror
If people live longer by not smoking then the outlay on state pensions far outweigh any costs to the NHS
In 1998 the World health Organisation tried to supress its own report into "Passive Smoking" as it found NO evidence to link Environmental tobacco smoke with cancer
We live in an age that makes Medieval theology seem reasonable

Just little children were making a mess out there.
They too want to be grown up.
When they can't even afford to buy a pack for themselves while they were still in schools.
Ban for indoors in aircond room should be fair for everyone.
For outdoors.
Not necessary.
There plenty of fresh air out there.
Just that we mess up all the women's dress that they went home and smell like ashtrays.
For indoors and aircond.
To get rid of the smell is to put some charcoal where the burner is burning to get rid of the smell.
The next morning all the smell will be gone and will not be carry forward the next day.
Evidence DOES show smoking causes major health problems. Where have you been? I also know that now when I go out my asthma and sinuses don't get aggrevated, and my clothes no longer have to be fumigated!
I suggest you visit a cancer ward and speak with the doctors and nurses who treat people with lung cancer and associated illnesses due to smoking, i have and seen the results first hand.
I denied that smoking caused medical problem but it does. I have had 2 heart attacks and COPD..I quit smoking 2 months ago..I smoked for 43 years..noone can force you to quit..
I don't like it ... and I think if a small business owner wants to allow people to smoke in their establishment they should be able to
but I do understand the need for the law ... you not smoking doesn't effect me, but me smoking next to you does effect you
... in a common sense world it would work like this ... "excuse me, would you mind putting out that cigarette?" ... and the smoker says "sure :)"
but we don't live in a common sense world, so lawmakers have to legislate
Believe it or not there are people working in the government to find ways to sneak pennys out of your pocket...a few cents for a stamp...$.40 tax on gas...$60. on a pack of cigarette's...$20. paper fee on an insurance policy...I could go on, you see where I'm going...anywhere they can weasel some cash from you they will...they being your government...whether it be Fed, State or local. How many times must we pay tax on each dollar we make...?
235 years ago we dumped there tea into Boston Harbor to protest the tax on tea,,,then they thought "we enjoy it why not tax it..."
As far as a smoking ban...some have to complain about something...
Well personally i dont think it cool to ban smoking. There is some health precautions when smoking, but so is drinking and other things. If they are going to ban cigarettes then they need to ban liquor, wine and beer because those to can cause some serious health problems. Canada banned smoking in there casinos and they are losing so much money its crazy, so now they are coming across the bridge to come to our casinos to gamble and be basically free. But now they are trying to ban smoking in our bars and casinos. That aint fair because how are you going to tell a business owner that he cat smoke in his own establishment? I feel if you dont like the smoke then dont go to the car or the casino. But in our casino they do have a smoke free floor so what the hell is the problem? they have all these commericals about how smoking is dangerous but the next commerical is promoting a new liquor, beer or wine, now tell me if im crazy or not. This is a free country and we should be able to smoke in bars and casinos because we are spending our money to help keep them in business. Before you know it they will be telling us we cant walk on a certain side of the street at a certain time.
And as for the person that said that all smokers are in denial you are a loose cannon and you dont know what your talking about. All people that get's lung cancer is not because they smoke. I know several people that died from lung cancer, never smoked a day in their life, didnt deal with people that smoke, and was never around smoke so lung cancer does come from other things than smoking.
I refuse to let the governement run my life and what i do with it. I pay taxes just like everyone else. If you dont like the smoke then leave and go somewhere else, why should we accomodate them because THEY dont like it..who cares. They already are trying to control what we eat, i have never been in so many restaurants where they have two different menus.
I smoke and my skin is beautiful and my breath smells great. Everyone has their opinions but are they facts?
AND GEORGE...I AGREE WITH YOU
There is no doubt that smoking is unhealthy and can cause problems to a majority of smokers. What has been exaggerated is the effects of second hand smoke. This was done to try to get the moral upper-hand and guilt the smokers into giving up their rights. It is a typical left wing tactic. If you think about it, most of the middle aged and elderly have been exposed to second hand smoke for a good part of their life since back in the 60's 70's and 80's you could smoke just about anywhere including in hospitals and doctor's offices yet during that time, life expectancy has gone up by 50%.
That is what happens when you are willing to give away the rights of others just because they annoy you; sooner or later you will loose yours because somebody will find it annoying, will take the moral high ground and convince others to take those rights away from you.
I knew several people who died of lung cancer or other illnesses, due to smoking.
My husband suffers from COPD because of smoking. His Mom died because, tho she was never a smoker, her whole family smoked around her. Second hand smoke is a killer, too.
Even the cigarette companies are now admitting to harm from smoking.
There's lots & lots of evidence out there.
I have inner ear problems, aggrevated by smoking. And problems with my gums, and other assorted illnesses. All of them on the mend, since I've quit smoking. Not even mentioning the huge pile of dollars I no longer lay out for cigarettes.
So dont argue the point with me. I know there is good reason for the smoking ban. Money added to cigarettes for health services is good. Many, many illnesses the health services are treating are caused by smoking.
So why don't they ban loud base music from cars? Impact noise causes noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) and it is forced in to my home by scum who insist on playing it from their vehicles in public places!!
At least smokers don't force their smoke in to my home.
I hate these hypocrites in government!
Yes and No.
I believe that smoking in areas where children are should be limited more. Their still growing bodies should not be exposed to it, especially since they tend to have little choice in the matter. Adults patronizing a bar/pub etc have a choice and can choose to go in or not.
Business owners should have the right to whether or not they will allow it in their particular facility. Studies are already showing evidence of decreased patronage since implementation of bans in several locations around the world.
If we start with banning smoking, what will we ban next? (second link for interesting "story" about this.)
WHO has consistantly denies any studies that show their studies were exaggerated.
Lots of links in the third link attached showing the bias and misinformation out there.
Fourth link is to a lawyer, who wrote a short "book" about the smoking concers and such since 1964.
And if we are going to insist on banning smoking, then let me offer the next item that should be banned, loud music in public. It damages peoples hearing, most of it played loud is offensive and should not be heard by young children.
I oppose the smoke ban in England. Most people seem to be unaware of what is actually happening as a result of the smoke ban.
A lot of folk now go to the pub and simply stay outside on the pavement/sidewalk. They smoke. They also bring their own booze. Pubs are losing out.
The winter months, rapidly approaching, will confirm my suspicions that pubs are going to be really hammered hard by this foolish ban.
I should add that I am a smoker who has only recently given up. I no longer go to ye pub.
I was in Brighton at the weekend. We never went into a single pub, but drank lots around the streets, cans, bottles etc. Some of us remain committed smokers.
I agree with you about smoke and health! I have smoked since age 9. I am now 66 and last saw my doctor when I had a hernia aged 50. I do not expect to have to go again until I'm about 85 when I plan to have another check up.
As for smoking , It is not illegal to smoke ,
As for a ban , By law if a person is baned from a pub , it only lasts for six months
As for the Govenment , if they need to raise money for whatever they will raise it , the same way as they allways do , by taxing the public , one way or another
By the way , you know speed cameras , the Councils are going to put up smoking cameras soon ,
