How many hours can a 16+ year old work in the U.S?

I'm in need of a job and I don't know how many hours I'd be able to work.

I was told and I read that 14-15 year olds in the U.S can only work a certain amount of hours. But once you're age 16+ you can work unlimited hours. Is this true?

Heres what I read.

"Sixteen- and 17-year-olds may be employed for unlimited hours in any occupation other than those declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor. Examples of equipment declared hazardous in food service establishments include power-driven meat processing machines (meat slicers, saws, patty forming machines, grinders, or choppers), commercial mixers and certain power-driven bakery machines."

And I got it from a pretty reliable website, but i'm not entirely sure.

If this is false, how many hours can I work?

Hello Dear;

That is correct FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act Advisor) does not limit the number of hours or times of day for workers 16 years and older. However, if you are going to school first you have to apply for a job; ones you get hired you have to go to the school's administration office and they will give you a slip that your new boss has to sign specifying the number of hours per week that you'll be working.

Well adults can only work 8 hours...I work 10 hours sometimes, and I'm 16. It's illegal, but I still do it...
this is mandated state by state. You will need to check with your state employment commission to get a Correct Answer.
teens can only work between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m so that's a possible 20 hour work day

damn
In Indiana a 16 year old can work only 8 hours a day and must have a 1 hour break. They must be scheduled one day off a week. I believe they can not work past a certain time if they are still in high school.
It varies by state. In most states that I know of, that's true.
8 hrs excluding break time
Talk to your school counselor, an adult out of school can work as many hours as they feel capable of, but if you are in school there are limits, not only on the amount of hours, but the type of job as stated in you quote. The company you apply at will also have rules it must follow as for hours and breaks. There are OSHA rules that govern all working conditions. If you can legally drop out of school, which many states have changed these standards. during vacation time, the hours will be adjusted. The unlimited hours are affected by your current situation. It would be in your best interest to limit your hours of work and finish your education.
