Ok, lets have some honest opinions on cannabis.?
The UK government are seeking to move it up to be a higher classed drug. I'm want some honest opinions on its use and legal status. Should it be as available as alcohol? Or does Holland have the right idea? Or are our governments right?.

Cannabis should be absolutely tolerated and acceptable. Holland has the right ideas and strategies in place. Go and visit Amsterdam and the Coffee Shops then do the UK's stenching screeching pubs,especially between Thursday and Sunday and come and tell me which environment you prefer to relax in ? Alcohol use and abuse is fast becoming a massive and revolting social curse, especially ALL OVER Britain. The associated problems and behaviour with alcohol are utterly vile, pathetic, dangerous and destructive. It is impossible to walk through any town or city in UK on a weekend now, in persuit of say seeing a film or going to enjoy a meal out, without having to plough through this minefield of alcohol induced insanity and filth on the streets. In any case you cannot ever totally forbid grown adults against something harmless like Cannabis which is related to sense gratification,creativity and recreation. The very nature of the Herb, it's adaptability to grow in such a wide spread and variety of places and climes etc. as well as the close relation with the cannabinoids, found in the anatomy and physiology of every human are some of the points well in favour of it's social acceptance. All this guff about leading on to other things (drugs?) is absolute crap and a feeble argument which cannot ever be upheld. What can be though is,an example such as myself,a Cannabis user for 34 years,in good health and have never had any inclination at all to seek out the use of drugs. I also always challenge and research *prescribed* drugs from Doctors (rarely needed) and have to be really at risk healthwise before even considering taking them. The addict is in the person NOT the substance. Cannabis is NOT a drug. It is NOT addictive.
I STRONGLY RESENT ANY SUGGESTION THAT I AM AN ILLICIT AND ILLEGAL DRUG USER ! The effects of Cannabis are very pleasant yes, which is what makes it so popular and wonderful but then so too are many other sense gratification methods used by man.
If for some, the effects turn out to be not so pleasant then I would simply say, leave it alone. Just like for example as you would waterskiing ? That habit people have of too easily relating Cannabis to drugs is out of order and is slanderous ! These old fart governments like the UK and U.S. know fine well what a mammoth task they would have in trying to harness any revenues from Cannabis because it is so,so easy for people to grow their own. Trying to forbid it's use is a pointless battle which these establishments will never ever win. I am only one person with a network of friends who use Cannabis, and will never stop both using it nor finding and maintaining sources. There are many good reasons and benefits for the use for Cannabis and Hemp based products & substances. Too many to list. Gambling = harmful and destructive = taxable.
Cars and Motorbikes = harmful and destructive = taxable.

CANNABIS = harmless and non destructive = non taxable. There is the bee in the bonnet of these capitalist draconian governments, they cannot get a monetary cut out of Cannabis use because of the innate nature of it's freedom !! So they seek to illegalise it and use wildly inaccurate scare tactics to forbid and allay it's general use. Pathetic !

we should replace alcohol with cannabis. Alcohol causes people to get all hyperactive and start fighting each other, this is a problem in most towns and cities. Cannabis however causes people to relax and they couldn't start a fight even if they wanted because the sofa is so comfy and theres a big pink elephant in the way.
So i say make it easier to get hold of and make alcohol more difficult to get, or sell them together so they can even each other out

Legalize it, at least as a medical drug. It has extremely beneficial medicinal effects for certain ailments such as chemo-induced nausea and glaucoma. I think that if it as at least regulated the same as prescription narcotics, that would be better. I think it should be completely legalized though. That would cut out the blackmarket and the government could benefit from the tax dollars. Also, the police could spend their time focusing on violent offenders rather than stoned ones.

Should be legalised, the only reason people "move on" to harder drugs after smoking cannabis because of the people you have to mix with to buy the drug. If you could buy it in the shops like alcohol less people would end up on class A drugs.
The minute you buy it you break the law, and you subsidize drug trafficking, going all the way to the top.

I do not partake myself, but I know people that do. The evidence I see is that it is certainly no worse than alcohol, so I do not see why it should not have the same legal status.
In fact I know a couple of people that I really don't like when they are drunk, but have never seen the same aggression when they are high.
Im not sre on this one, im 16 and despite had loads of offers never tried it, but many of my friends reguarly smoke it in social occasions I havent seen any harm done by it but for many, it has led onto worst drugs. Now days its easier for, an under 18 to get weed, than aclcohol which isnt good. So im thinking that its ok in controlled enviroments, to be honest the main reason i havent tried it is because, most people make a joint, with tobacco and im strongly against smoking.
For whats it worth and i can only speak from experience, I thought it a mistake to classify it so low. Its used recreationally by thousands, possibly millions, or so we are told, but having seen what it can do to people, and the lasting effects i don't want it to become just like aspirin, doled out from your local pharmacy, or cafe.

It should be sold at chemists and taxed to the hilt .
It should then be made law that any found in possession without a legitimate receipt will serve a minimum of 5 years in prison .
In one go the gov have made it legal and therefore boring , earned millions on tax , and disabled the entire drugs network throughout the UK which depends on the cheap stuff to finance the more expensive and more deadly drugs .
holland has the right idea but we in the UK are becoming much more puritan like the septics. we will never be able to have things the way they are in holland therefore allowing the criminal elements to make huge profits from the drug trade and sex trade
I've smoked cannabis for 29 years and it hasn't affected me or the secret army of purple people who watch me.
My honest opinion, and I do have the education to back it, is that, no, it should not be legalized. Any economic benefit will be drastically overshadowed by the rise in the health care cost. Rehab is not cheap. While the myth of the drug as a gateway drug is not true, it is the conditions of use and the "chasing the dragon" effect that will lead to heavier drugs. Not to mention that all the modern marijuana is much more powerful than what was being used in the 60's and 70's. It does have side effects and is addictive. Studies are also showing that it will draw out psychological afflictions such as schizophrenia if a person is already predisposed to the possibility to that disorder. Back to the medicinal use there are far more effective legal drug used for pain relief. Many people compare the legalization to prohibition and the percieved failure, however, prohibition was actually succesful in lowering the health related effects of alcohol and actually did lower crime. It did give rise to organized crime which gave the "feel" of failure. Not to mention the tax revenue that uncle sam loast by prohibition. Now we are fighting cigarettes, and we would eventually being doing the same with cannibis.
I've always been for legalizing and regulating it, like they do with alcohol. I'm not exactly sure how Holland treats it (never been there) -- I believe they allow it to be sold and consumed in licensed bars.
Although, to be realistic -- even if Gov't does legalize it, there will still exist an underground black market. For instance, even though Congress repealed Prohibition in 1933, bootlegging continues to this day (albeit with far less collateral violence than during Prohibition).
cannabis should be used for the people who are really highly strung or suffer from ADD.
This whole thing that it can cause mental illnesses is because people are abusing it in the wrong way. it causes mental illnesses in those people who use it a lot in their teens as their brains are still rewiring.
Alcohol is the bigger problem you dont see a man fighting after 6 joints compared to six pints. The only problem weed can bring is a bigger appetite.
The government are slowly taking our freedom away and it should be optional if a person wishes to smoke weed or not. If it was made legal then crimes that are alcohol related would decrease as we would be too wrecked to do anything.
Im going to amsterdam in a few months and cant wait.i cant believe they are putting a smoking ban in place over there too as from next year so come on people lets get wasted before we run out of time!

I think alcohol and cannabis are as bad as each other. They both make you act in a way you wouldn't and are mind altering in some way. Some people say cannabis is non addictive but I have been around users for alot of my life. All these people started smoking cannabis and ended up chasing a bigger, better hit. Some of these including a senior family member are now addicts. I had an ex who smoked cannabis regularly, and by regularly I mean all day every day, and he got so paranoid and reclusive. in the end i tried to leave him as I found him in bed with puppy **** all over him and my kids running wild downstairs when I got home from work, he beat me so badly in front of my kids that i ended up in hospital. My ex husband was an alcoholic who smashed up our house on a weekly basis and hit me around til I left him. So personally I would like to see both classed as high classed drugs.
I'm not a huge fan of cannabis.
But I'm an underage drinker, and I realise that I'm no better than people smoking pot. They're both illegal - at my age, anyway - and they're both drugs.
I don't think it matters what they do with the law: if people want to do something, they're going to do it anyway.

If you have to rely on an illegal drug that has the risk of mental health problems then there is something wrong with that person. We all know the effects of alcohol and thats legal! I have seen so many people who waste their money on this crap for years then become affected emotionally and can't do without it. My honest opinion is that damages peoples heads and should be an illegal drug, not classed as anyhting.

Its effects on users, children, non-users are prooven to be a major downturn. Its dangers (medically) are also prooven. It is clear, those who disagree have never looked into the studies or taken the time, as I have.
I see that young PPL can develop schizophrenia as a result of taking it regularly. Given that 1/5th of youngsters under 21 smoke it regularly, which I have calculated to be 2.5 million PPL, and 800 of them develop mental illness as a result, that is under 0.03% of all young smokers. As Gordo B wants to raise the bar on spliff smoking to a class B, I think that he is over reacting and making a mountain out of a molehill. The BMA who did this survey should stop scaremongering, they are behaving just like the Daily Mail in its hysterical pusuit of exaserbating privet hedge paranoia. I wish they would all grow up.
I don t like canabis and i never have i beleive it does have health risks as does smoking and alcohol so i think if people want to walk round like zombies and forget there names let them do it

As long as its regulated I see no problem with it. As far as I am concerned the only reason its illegal there and in the US is for political and social reasons.
