Can anything be done about social workers who do nothing about abuse cases?
I live in a city where the entire legal system is a huge joke. police officers are the laziest things on 2 feet and there are sooo many unsolved murders here. (its a small city too, so its not like they're overwhelmed or anything). The social workers here dont do anything about abuse cases, even if someone gets turned in repeatedly for abusing their child. You basically have to kill a kid before they'll do anything about it. Is there anything that can be done about this system?? We've turned in abusers before and they just go unpunished. One person we turned in allowed a convicted sex offender to live in his house with him and there were major suspicions that the child was being physically abused by her father, and sexually abused by the man living there...and still, nothing was done. it makes me sick, really.

Contact the local papers. I'm sure they'll love an exclusive or a tip off. That usually makes people sit up and notice. Especially when the big boss comes down on them.
By legal system being a joke, do you include the judicial system? If the judicial system is intact, you can take legal action against the city's head (mayor?), the social workers (and their organization) and the police chief by means of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL.) If you can get others to join with you, you'll make a significant impact. If the local judicial system is corrupt, go a level higher and include the local magistrate (or whoever.)
Good luck! Active participation from the citizenry will energize the laziest of the two-legged animals:-))
Your Right it is a big joke to these people working in that field all they want is a paycheck and could care less about whats going on ,it seems they turn there heads elsewhere when they know something is going on , In the State of Florida if they are informed of abuse they have to check it out in less than 24 hours but still we have children being abused and even come up missing and nobody knows what has happened to the child ,Contact the person who is in charge and if that don't work go over his Head ,Sometimes going to the News Channel will get things done /
Just keep reporting your suspicions to the authorities. Try writing a letter to the local newspaper or contact a local TV station. If there is a story there, they will jump on it. Many times a kick in the pants from the news will give them incentive to do their jobs properly.
