I guess it really matters where you are from, most inquiries are called Coroner's Inquest. Properly called Coronial investigation, which is the process to establish the identity of the deceased, the certification of death, the medical cause of death, and the circumstances of death. These take place especially after 'suspicious' deaths. And, nowadays, after a person of older age passes, (unless there may have been a long term illness like cancer, etc.) there can be a more detailed coroner's exam, to rule out foul play.
