Law and Ethics?

Why is this considered to be one category?

Don't seem to me as they have a thing in common.

Answers:
I heard that !

well I guess they had to put them some where. many questions of law and ethics are related so why not. I am not trying to be sarcastic in any way, but most legal problems do involve the ethics of the person or people involved.
You know, computer programmers don't have ethical considerations. You go to work, and if you miscode something, it's just a mistake, it doesn't make you a bad person. If a lawyer transposes numbers on a check from his Escrow account, it's a potential ethical violation.

If a construction contractor misses a deadline, it's a contract violation and may cost him money, but it doesn't make him a bad person. If a lawyer misses a filing deadline, it's a potential ethical violation.

If a pharmacy can't read a doctor's handwriting, it doesn't make the doctor a bad person. If a lawyer's documents aren't clear, it can indicate incompetence to a degree that it is a potential ethical violation.

If a doctor asks a patient if they have any problems in their history that impact the treatment to be prescribed and the patient lies, it doesn't reflect on the doctor. If a lawyer asks a client what the true story is, gets lied to, and presents documents or testimony to a court based on those lies, it is a potential ethical violation.
I agree but people making laws should have ethics, and people should have ethics and follow laws.
Both deal with rules -- how rules should be interpreted, how they are applied, and possible consequences.

Laws are rules imposed by the govt -- ethics are rules that are accepted voluntarily by association or profession.

But the general theory is the same.
