My younger half sister forged a check and cashed it in Wisconsin. What next?
My younger 17 yr old half-sister forged a check with her mother's boyfriends name. She cashed it at the local bank in her town. She had already run away from home and I hear that the police are looking for her within the town. I know she will probably be arrested and prosecuted but what if she leaves the state? Will the police go after her in another state? I'm concerned because she will be 18 soon and once 18, I believe it stays on your record..any help anyone can offer is helpful. I've told her that she has to get a job and pay it back to her mother's boyfriend - I cant believe she did this!
Answers:
If charges are being filed against her, which I assume they are and she moves to another state a warrant will be issued for her and she will eventually have to answer to the charge. She should turn herself in and get it over with now.
Smile and say cheese for the mug shot.
Jail time when caught--A powerful lesson.
A warrant will be issued for her arrest. If police anywhere come across her she will be detained and extradited to the jurisdiction where the fraud occured. She will be tried as a minor since she was a minor at the time of the violation. Whether or not the conviction will go on her record or not depends on whether she is convicted on a felony or misdemeanor charge and your states laws in regards to juvenile convictions. Some states expunge a minors record at 18 automatically.
darn right she can be arrested.
