Why do people have rights?

God gave them to us.


Hmm, good question, I guess because we expect them.

Another good question would be why do poeple feel they should have more rights than they alreayd do.
One must thank the Greeks of the Classic time, and the French Revolutionaries, for this. Unfortunately, some ugly characters (including Chirac, "Zizo" and others-read Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables" and see how he describes this kind of characters) twisted these values.
To help us protect our selves from the people we give power too.
B/c Thomas Jefferson wrote that we are granted the right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
That means we are free, and we can do whatever the heck we want, right?
There was nothing in there about caring for our responsibilites.
That isn't what America was founded for, now is it?
Because they are cool.
Because we have created laws.
Excuse me, but the writers of the Declaration of Independence said NOTHING about only American having rights. In fact they are "inalienable" rights.
To employ all the lawyers. :P
