I got a ticket for in North Carolina?
The ticket was for "improper turn by directional markers: By failing to make a right turn in a manner as directed by a direction sign or marker" G.S. 20-153.
What happened is the 2 lane road turned into a 1 lane road with the right lane becoming a Right turn only lane. I put on my blinker to cross back into the left lane but I crossed over a solid line.
I didn't even know this was illegal. My question is
1-should I go to court & explain why I did what I did?
2-what kind of points will go on my license? Will my insurance rates go up?

I would go to court and explain your position...that you simply did not know. Are you "from" North Carolina, do you live there, did you get your original drivers licence there?
Any traffic violation will levy points against your licence and will effect your insurance rates.
Most judges will listen and be understanding. It never hurts to dress appropriately, be polite, and use proper language while in court.
#1--yes. The judge may take pity on you if you're respectful and acknowledge your mistake. (Which was not switching lanes soon enough--the solid line is there for a reason.)
#2--one point for a moving violation, and "yes".
Yes, you should go to court. Go back to the scene and take pictures and measurements.
