Do the company have legal rights againist me? (Download of Anime)?

I have downloaded an Anime Months ago, when it was still unlicenced.

Few days ago, a Japanese company licenced it and some local company sent me a letter telling me to pay a fine or I have to go to court.

May I know if this is valid or is that company trying to rob me in the daylight. When I think of it, it gets fishy.

Answers:
It depends upon the circumstances of the download and the law in your jurisdiction. You should contact an attorney in your area to discuss the situation rather than seeking answers from this system.

Just ignore it, it will cost them more to pay their lawyer than what they would collect from you.
