Is it Illegal to test 911 dialing in Atlanta, GA?

I have Vonage VoIP Service as my house phone. I've been searching the net trying to find information about georgia's 911 laws but I can't find anything. I would like to test 911 but I don't want to do so if it's illegal.

Calling 911 for just a test call is definitely a no-no...

you need to try and just call your police dept on a non-emergency number to find out the process you need to go by is workable with Vonage's services. Also Vonage should be able to answer that question as well...they are a phone company afterall.

They will find something to charge you with.

I would contact your local police on the NON-emergency number, and explain the situation to them. They could possibly contact the 911 center and arrange for a test if they can't answer your questions -- at a time that the 911 center is not experiencing heavy volume.

Would you want to be responsible for someone dying because they didn't get help soon enough? Just because you wanted to do a test?

I hope not.
I would contact Vonage tech support first. Even if it not illegal, it is a bad idea unless you have a serious medical problem or something.
I can understand you wanting to make sure it works. I'd suggest calling the local non-emergency number for the police and asking their advice on how you can test it without getting into trouble or setting off unnecessary responses.
Vonage!!

I have Vonage.
You don't test 911....you'll get arrested for playing on the phone.

Just call Vonage (aka: India) and they will test it for you.
Also it should show on your Vonage setup page.

But call them and get through your headache talking to them. Get it over with already. It'll only last 2 hours if you're lucky!!
They just put in a english speaking number in my area, I don't know about yours, but ask them when you finally decipher past the security lingo.

Cheap rates though!

Good Luck.
First of all, do not call Vonage to test 911, they cannot do that nor would you want them doing that.

Call the non-emergency number first and ask to be transferred to the 911 center if that is not who you are talking to already. Tell them you recently got Voip service and would like to make a test 911 call. They should not have a problem with that. When you make the call, have them tell you what info is showing up on their screen so you know that they are getting the correct info.

And unless your are desperately in need of saving money: as in you are about to lose your house, I would suggest avoiding any VOIP service.
