6.6 billion people on Earth. If every able bodied human worked 40 hours a week, would the world be a ...?
better or worse place? It seems to me that all those people working all those hours would have to cause some severe environmental damage, unless everyone were allot more conscientious about what we do for a living. When elected President I will initiate a 20 hour work week and a $20.00 per hour minimum wage.
Answers:
You've got my vote man. Some of these people working 80 hour weeks need to lighten up.
I think it's only been since the industrial revolution that the idea of working all day became common.
Two to four hours a day is about right for work.
What you'll really be initiating is $20 loaves of bread.
and ill initiate free beer for everyone
Sounds like a good idea if you wanted to utterly destroy the economy. good thinking comrade!
hey stupe, who's paying out the $20/hr for 6.6 billion people? (or even USA alone?) if you say the gov't, you're a fool, my taxes pay the gov't's expenses..
That 20 dollar minimum wage will push inflation through the roof. No one will be any richer, since the cost of life will go up exponentially.
And 20 hour work weeks will make companies charge more for goods and services, since they won't be able to turn a profit by hiring a small work force.
A $20 per hour minimum wage, with the workers getting 20 hours or more a week of overtime, could possibly cause almost 200% inflation. Would you really want that?
yea quick question.. then what will get done? haha... unless its a flat rate of 20 and people that need to work overtime actually do it but just get paid regular. the problem would b if something didnt get done then it wont get done... yes someone else would take that shift and finish but first off... since when can babies work? secondly what if the project that first person was doing is only capable of being finished by that first person.. nevermind im confusing haha
If you were elected President you would only be responsible for 300 million people.
Then you would shut down the whole system with your economic strategy.
It depends on how its used there would be plenty more stress enviromental damage tons of workaholics and plenty other bad things. As great as your idea of 20 hour weeks with 20 dollar minimum wage America would be in even more debt and the prices of things would sky rocket.
Well, unfortunately for those conservatives that think we'd all be in inflation heaven with this notion, it's not a bad one. All markets would like to have the majority of the people employed. At least those who can work, anyway.
However, we can leave these Church of the American Market worshippers aside for one moment.
At some point in our existence, we will not worship money as we do in the US and in the other parts of the world that continue with these forms of government and economics. There will be a way to provide for all eventually that will make the "markets" of today largely irrelevant. At least for our personal survival.
Be that as it may, a global economy is what EVERYONE wants. This will be the goal of the global economy. I see nothing wrong with it. Mandatory working hours is such a fascist idea, anyway. Who came up with that crap? The people that run the market, that's who. :)
everyone would be broke under your "plan". everything would be expensive. and people will do nothing but shop.
SO YOU COMMIE YOU SHOULD TAKE A ECONOMICS CLASS AND LAY OFF OF THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO AND THE HARD CORE DRUGS YOU ARE ON.
Wheee!
May I suggest you take classes in Politics, Economics, Geography and Government Studies?
The President (US, I assume) only controls the US and it's territories, about 300,000,000 people, as others have mentioned.
Presidents do not make laws, the Congress does.
If a $20.00 minimum wage was instituted in the United States, all jobs that previously paid below $20.00/hour will go overseas within several days.
That is approximately 60% of the workforce in the United States without jobs practically overnight.
The new $20.00 will be worth about $2.00. So a burger and fries that used to cost $4.00 will now cost $40.00.
People will riot and turn the country into a "Mad Max" type of situation.
As you can see, that would not be a good idea.
