It isn't necessary to dehumanize them. They did it themselves when they chose to commit heinous crimes. Regarding them as less than human while still recognizing that they have basic human rights, even though they ignored those of their victims, is correct in my opinion.

Well, they earned themselves into their predicament. Personally, I believe most felons should be allowed to eventually earn themselves out of their ex-convict status if they work hard enough at it, and not be forever treated as second-class citizens, but ensuring that society is kept safe from them is the first priority.
