Want to add a middle name?

Im not 18 yet and want to add a middle name. Do I have to do it in court? I heard you could just put the new name on documents( drivers license, school records) and eventually you will adapt the name

I think you have to wait till you're 18, or have your parents do it with you, but you just file a form with the county. Look on your county government website.

Yes. You have to do it in court for it to be legal. It requires petitioning the court, giving public notice by advertising in the legal advertisements section of the newspaper [and also the county law journal if required by state statute]. Once you have the court order, then you can have your name changed on official documents.

If you are a minor [not yet 18] your parents are a necessary party to this process and would be petitioning the court for you.

I think I read somewhere that in the UK you can change your name by a "deed poll."
