Name Change in the Registry Marriage?
I got regisrty married in Merton-UK, when writing & signing the marriage certificate, she use her own name as before and not changed to husband's surname.
Did she do any offence by using her old surname?? and what was her intention for not using her husband's surname.
Can anyone tell or explain me by-law and her rights in UK when to change her surname, i.e on giving marriage notice or after getting registry married??
Answers:
She is not required to change her name this is 2007. A woman has every right to keep her name if she wishes. She can if she wants later change it by deed poll...
she cant use her surname on marriage documents, because that is a document to agree to be married that don't take place until after the signing. sounds confusing but she did right.
After she is married she NEVER has to use her husbands name it is not a requirement. she can use it if she wants but does not have to. no one can force her to use the surname.
She did nothing wrong, she did no crime.
I would like to know why you asked this question? Is it because you are looking for a way out?
