Changing name on headstone?
if someone as a baby that dies at birth is the woman aloud to change second name to hers instead of the fathers on headstone .they where not married but the baby had fathers second name
Answers:
The headstone in a cemetery is personal property and you don't have to go through legalities to change the name if you so choose. Of course you will have to pay for a new headstone, because as you know this is not possible with granite or marble or any hard stone. You are perfectly within your rights to order a new one, if that is you own the grave and you have the necessary documents to prove that. You don't have to go through any legal proceedings to do that. Most cemetery trusts, apart from council run ones are privately run so all you need to do is to approach the people you purchased the grave/plot from and tell them your intentions and then find a stonemason who will make you a new one.
Wow what a tough question, I seriously doubt it; unless you changed name on death cert, not sure you could do that either for legal ramifications.
The mother is the one that puts the last name on the birth certificate. Why didn't she put hers on the certificate to begin with? I would put both names of the headstone.
Sure. No problem. Get a hammer and chisel on Saturday night. and don't get caught. ha
Yes, rub out the old name with an eraser and write the new one on with a pen
They could just put the infants first name and put "daughter of" just using the mothers name .
I would imagine this rule applies in most countries, but definitely in the U.K.- if you are not married, the mother can change the childs name legally without the fathers permission. The birth certificate can never actually be changed/redone once the fathers name is on it, but you will receive a new legal document to show the child's new legal name, which can then be used as the name on the headstone. Contact the registry office where the child's birth was registered and they will give you the appropriate contact details for the name change. I know how important it is as a mother, for your baby to have the same surname as you. Best wishes. Holly xxx
Headstones are personal property. If you paid for it, you can do anything you want to do, even replace it. The name or saying on the headstone has nothing to do with a legal name.
