Technically, it is not as bad for you as alcohol and it was probably the alcohol lobbyists that kept it from being legalized in the 1970s. I'm just not sure that we need more mind altering drugs available than we already have. For me, I like all my faculties in order! :-) That said, I am guessing that as cigarette smoking grows less and less that the tobacco companies will push the legalization of marijuana. They have the fields, they have the companies to manufacture the cigarettes, and they already have the southern senators. So just be patient if that is your stance.
yes, for no other reason than i like it
Intelligent answers on Yahoo? No way!
Seriously though - im not giving my opinion if it should or shouldnt be made legal. Im just giving my opinion that i highly doubt it will ever be made legal. Reason being - look at how they are cracking down on tobacco. They are making it illegal to smoke it just about anywhere but in your back yard it seems these days. Taking this into account do you honestly think they are going to legalize another item to smoke, while cracking down on the main one?
I have never used it, nor will i ever. I have never smoked tobacco either. But ive got to admit i dont see how it is any more harmful than tobacco. It really cant be any worse.
NOOOOOO!!
Marijuana is a mind-altering drug. So many teens, adults using this drug have hurt innocent children, elderly, pets, when they are stoned. It ruins lives, families and will ruin our nation if this vise is legalized. Just look at the countries who have lack of drug laws. Call me old-fashioned, but anything that is harmful to the innocent should be outlawed.
Yes. Marijuana should be made legal in The US.
The problem now is websites like this one, and craigslist, and thousands more give ignorant people a platform from which to proclaim whatever they wish to, whether is be reality based or completely false. Those people have been brainwashed as children just like most of the rest of us about what marijuana does to you. Some people grew up and found out the truth about Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy and Marijuana. Some did not.
If you are reading this and you think that any of the naysayers above have good advice for you regarding cannabis, you should be advised. They are obviously not the experts they think they are. There will be people who make ridiculous claims about things that cannabis does to you, or stereotypical statements about the people who use cannabis.
Knotalawyr has no idea what he is talking about.
Cannabis users are as different from one another as people who drink alcohol. Of course there are the people who make the rest of us look bad from time to time, but there are also Ph.D's and otherwise successful individuals, who manage to enjoy cannabis responsibly and continue to contribute to society with positive things.
Everyone has a right to their opinion. There's no doubt about that. If you choose to "live above the influence" as they say, then that's fine. We cannabis users are not on a crusade. We are not trying to recruit the world to our side. We are simply standing up for our choice in the matter. So if you disagree with cannabis, ask yourself, how do other people smoking pot affect me? People are out there smoking it right now. They will continue to smoke once it's decriminalized. The only thing that will change is the fact that they won't have to go sit in jail if they get caught. So really, what are you doing by fighting against decriminalization besides scarring the criminal background of otherwise law abiding citizens?
People should really put things into perspective before they run around preaching out against this God-given herb. So, the idea is by planting seeds in the dirt and into the minds of others we can grow cannabis physically and metaphorically. Do your part how you see fit. One thing you can do is seek out questions that were asked on here, but that the best answer picked was an uninformed ignorant response. Contact that person and give them the correct answer, or send them to www.outgrowbigbro.org for more information. We have to inform all who are ignorant of the facts behind cannabis. Another thing is you can take all your seeds and put them where they will grow. Preferably somewhere in public, where people can see them. If we do this, America will become desensitized to the taboo idea that cannabis is a bad thing. If you give them a beautiful cannabis plant to admire near the bus stop or in the Starbucks drive thru, they will have a chance to appreciate the beauty that is cannabis and maybe they will change their preconceived notions.
You're either with us or you're them!

because if we don't, who will?
It should be decriminalized, but not legalized.
If it was legalized, it would need to be regulated and not allowed in public places to protect other's rights from second hand smoke.
My question is: why should the government decide things like what you can smoke, drink, etc. if it is not interfering with others rights? Drinking and driving should have consequences, and harsh ones, but the idea of the government stepping in to our lives to tell us what we can and cannot do is wrong.
The government has overstepped its boundaries in our lives. I am not a supporter of smoking marijuana, nor will I ever smoke it, but it is not the right of the government to rule our lives this way.
Remember what the governments role was: to protect our rights, and not to infringe upon them.
No, it should not be legalized - for the protection of the user as well as the protection of others.
Talk with anyone who gets high, and you see there are no intelligent words coming from their lips, and their judgements are greatly impaired.
