Roommate Abandoned Property...Help?

About a year ago I signed a lease for a 2 bedroom apartment. My childhood/best freind asked if he can move in with me and I said ok. About 3 months ago his girlfreind, who he had practically living with us, began to disrespect both me and my home. I asked him to talk to her but he refused. So when I told him that she had to respect me or she couldnt come over anymore he blew up at me and moved out that same day. Since then both he and his girlfreind has blown up at me and attacked me, threatened to 'kick my A-S-S', attacked my family and used all personal information to piss me off to no avail. Hostile is an understatement to describe the way they both have been behaving. I dont want to argue so I told him that he couldnt come into the apartment to get his things, he had to send his family members, but now they are being hostile with me too. I had to change my locks because he refuses to return my keys. How can I legally get rid of his personal belongings that he left in my place?

Answers:
Just let him come get his stuff, you could actually get into trouble for not allowing him to get what belongs to him. If you feel threatened by his recent behavior, arrange for a policeman to be present during the time he is getting everything out. Let him know beforehand that you will have a cop there.
If he refuses to comply and his stuff is there for an extended period of time (sorry, not sure the time limit on this, it varies from state to state), sell it!!

Well, the easiest way would be to let them come in and get it ... it might be hostile, but then you won't have to deal with it. Legally, you're supposed to notify the person of a date by which they need to remove their stuff, and then after that date, if they haven't, you can do whatever you want with it. Just call him, arrange a time that he can pick up his stuff, and be done with the situation.
I would call the police to be there exchange property for keys. Or say screw it and throw it out
Send him a notarized letter saying he must remove his belongings from your property within 30 days or they will be disposed of. You can pay a fee to have it hand-delivered to him. After a month, sell everything you can and throw out what you can't sell.

If you've got it in writing and notarized, it will hold up if he tries to sue you.
