Enlighten me. Should the Basque country be made independent?

Answer:
If the people wish it, yes it should be independent.

You said the Basque country. Where did you get that idea?
Yes. The Basques have refused to be assimilated into mainstream Spanish culture.
Let 'em go, Spain!
Hmmm, I think the best people to decide that should be the basque people both in Spain and France. Whilst we may have opinions about it, it's for them to decide. I think they should be allowed to hold a referendum. If the majority wish it, then the majority view should prevail.

That will then lead to the Valencianos wanting a referendum, as there is a separatist movement there as well. In the local elections a couple of months ago there was a coalition of 4 independence parties. If you ever get the chance you could always speak to a few Catalans about the same subject.

Should Scotland and Wales be made independant? Throughout the world many countries contain small groups of peoples who want independance, In Eastern Europe we now have many very small little countries with and within those there are separatist movements.

The answer to all this is, very often independance movements and supporting paramilitary organisations form around the movement. They do no always represent the view of the majority, yet they still go around blowing people up, saying that they represent the majority view. They should put it to the vote and let the people decide.

Long live democracy and the right to vote to determine your future. Only then will you have an answer to your question should the Basque country be made independant. It's should be up to the people
I think if the majority of the Basque people want to be indepndant then they should. same with the catalans. every catalan I met in Barcelona wanted to be independant but the spanish goverment wanted them to be a part of spain. I think its beter to have smaller countries than bigger countries it helps preserve cultre.
In most senses the Basques are idendepent. They pretty much have autonomy in Spain. In France, like everybody else they ignore the law. They couldn't support their own currency and wouldn't benefit from leaving the E.U. so its pretty academic either way.
That would be up to the Basque people in France and Spain -
by the way : thank you for being the one person who is able to spell "independent"
