How long do keep penalty points on your licence before they get wiped off?

Answers:
The rule is that if you get more than 12 points in any 3 year period, you are disqualified. So, points are 'wiped' after three years. However, although they won't count in totting up after three years, they remain 'on your licence' for a longer period, after which they are completely taken off. The second time period depends on what you were convicted of.

If you got points for: drinking/drugs and driving; causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs; or causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis, then the points stay for 11 years.

In all other cases, points stay on your licence for 4 years.
