Does anyone know if a person living with a nother person for 30 years can collect benifits.never married nys.
We were living togeather 30 years I know common law wife is not recognized in nys, but is there a clause were one can collect servivors benefits with the social security.

Only if the policy has a domestic partner's clause written into the policy. They will not be recognized as a spouse.

I believe you are entitled to few (if any) benefits, not to mention the lack of responsibility you might have in the care and disposition of your partner should he/she become ill or die.
These are exactly the reasons that Gay people demand the same rights - available only through marriage.
I don't think so, But call and ask because you never know.
You can try, but Social Security does not recognize life partners as surviving spouses. Ironically enough a divorced ex-spouse can qualify for survivor's benefits however.
