Are expiration dates on gift cards legal in north carolina?
I know that somestates have or are in the process of having a law that says that giftcards cannot expire would anyone know where north carolina stands in this?
Answers:
North Carolina Senate Bill 1517 was just ratified (8/2/07). It's title is: "AN ACT to require the conspicuous disclosure of any maintenance fees charged for gift cards and to prohibit issuers of gift cards from charging maintenance fees for one year after the date of purchase." You can read all the details here: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/bi...
Basically it states that gift cards issued in NC can not have fees during the first 12 months. Bank gift cards are excluded.
