How do we beat this bully?

My boyfriend was surfing and saw a boat unattended that hadn't been properly anchored floating toward the break/about to crash. He didn't know whose it was but he went to save it by pulling it back out away from shore, and in the process it tipped over and the stuff inside was lost in the ocean. He never saw the owners so he just left and the next day he sure found out who it belonged to. Some guy came punching him out of nowhere, said he owes him $3000 for the lost stuff from the boat. Turns out its this local Hawaiian my boyf has known all his life. The jerk didn't thank him for saving the boat, and now he's gona beat him up every time he sees him and harass him for 3 grand my baby doesn't have. This is a small island (maui) & if we go to the cops or get a restraining order he will look like a ***** and may get messed with by more than just that guy, but his friends/ local braddahs thats how it works over here. Is there some way to scare him off he won't realize he got done a FAVOR

Your boyfriend sure has a "cute" story to cover his a-ss, but it doesn't change the fact that he interfered with someone's private property and he's ultimately responsible. He should have left it alone. Now he'll be lucky if the "bully" doesn't sue his a-ss off.

Well, several minutes have passed and no answer, so I'll suggest this: Set him up. You're going to have to get this guy on film. Have your guy go out in the open where he'll be spotted by the bully, and let the bully assault him a little, you catch it on video camera. If you could confide in one of the local cops, maybe set up a sting operation much like they do in organized crime. If not, make a copy of the film and send it to the bully, but say nothing, don't make any threats. He'll know you'll use it against him if he continues, its a street thing. I know this sounds seedy, but it doesn't sound like you have much choice.
I guess you have to figure out if you're more interested in him having a good reputation, or a good medical policy.

Sounds to me like the good reputation doesn't seem that important if he's going to get his ash kicked every week.

It's against the law to threaten someone over a debt that was never agreed on - darn near racketeering. Your BF might take HIM to small claims court for $15 bucks, sue for the threat and make the other guy explain HIS beef, which you know he will... and then HE has defend his actions while your boyfriend stands there and grins.
