Should the name and picture of a suspected rapist be released?
kind of a old case to refer to, but the duke lacrosse case hit hard because i have a 17 year old brother and i could never imagine someone claiming that he raped them and finding out it was all a lie. my point is those boys were never on the the run, never a threat to others, so why am i 1000 miles away from north carolina and i know those boys by name and can pick them out in a crowd becuase of all the publicity they got. if the picture and name of a woman that is suspected of being raped is not released, why is the picture and name of a man supsected of raping a woman (as long as they are NOT on the run and the police have them) released to the public. they will forever be known as "those boys". i would never want my brother known as "that guy".
Answers:
Absolutely not. There should not be any names of photos released unless convicted. These boys will suffer for life over this greedy, lying, b1tch's accusations.
Sweetpea...you are right on that one. Can you imagine if it was a white girl who had accused black members of a sport's team? Al Sharp-tongue and Jesse Jack@ss would have her crucified, and any white people who had publicly rushed to judgement would be right there with the accuser. It never ceases to amaze me how these radical racists can continue to get a media spotlight with their venomous racisim!
Gem...you are full of it. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to release the names and photos. The accused would probably get a much more fair trial if they were NOT released!
Not until they are convicted, in my opinion.
that`s why nifong was fired and is now facing charges himself
NO, the media passes judgment, and so do citizens. A person is innocent until proven guilty in this country but a lot of us seem to forget that
ISN'T IT SAD THAT A GIRL CAN MAKE UP A LIE BECAUSE SHE'S ASSUMED SHE'S A WHORE! THOSE POOR GUYS AND FAMILY... SHE SHOULD BE IN JAIL IF SHE NOT ALREADY!
i think that they should be found guilty first then released to the press...if the girl is lying then her picture needs to be released to the press....but if they really did rape her they her picture shouldnt be released as that is the right of the rape victim to let who she wants to let known she was raped. understand???
I think the most deplorable part of this whole tragedy is the lack of apologies and remorse expressed by black leaders after the truth was known. I personally would sue them.
I see no reason why if the accussed can deneigrate the names of her so called rapists but the accuser is allowed to stay hidden.
It's another double standard.
Yes they can do that now a days but before in the old century the could not do that
This has been a long-standing debate: these people are presumed innocent, yet they are still put into the public court for sentencing.
I also believe that in a court room, the accused should never be shown to the jury because we judge so much on looks. Also, the name should never be said because then celebrities wouldn't get special consideration or treatment.
In order for our judicial system to truly work, the entire process must be transparent.
So that means that the government cannot "hide" anything from suspicion, through arrest, court & jury outcome.
If we start allowing our government to keep "secrets" (more than they already do) we are giving them the power to totally screw us over.
Yes, it sucks that these innocent boys are world known, but most of the world also knows they are innocent, so no harm, no foul.
But I, for one, do not want the police to come and arrest me in the middle of the night and not realease info about me or the arrest, then they could just hold you indefinitely without charges or courts or anything. Scary thought isn't it.
Oh, wait, they already can do that, as long as they label me a "terrorist". I am deeply afraid to be an American.
Suspected rapist? No. Convicted rapist? Most definitely. This is America and here we're innocent until proven guilty. I know it doesn't always work that way, but it's the ideal we should strive for.
The press has no boundaries and have the morals of a two dollar crack *****. ( I am only talking about sensationalist journalism) Unfortunately, it gets even worse when Sharpton and Jackson get involved. So what is the solution? probably don't be around where "questionable " behavior is taking place. If you or I are in a room where a crime is committed are we guilty of "complicity?" Always have a phone number of a good lawyer handy.
they brand people as rapist often for political reasons to discredit them in england they have door to door slanderers
making sure the person whos politics they dont like is well and truly defamed. but they are innocent.
