A friend of mine hasn't received her electricity bill since February 2007. What can she do?

She has called the company that supplies her electricity a number of times and every single time they told her that her bill was on its way. Its been 6 months and still no bill. She called the company again and they said that her meter is not recording any electricity usage for her property and that since they can estimate how much electricity she used up in the last 6 months they're going to charge her using her records of how much electricity she used last year during those same 6 months.

Answers:
Not much you can do. If the estimated bill is too much then she can contest it. Be prepared for a lot of run around. She might be better off going in person to the electric company and speak to someone in person. Usually you get quicker and better results. It can be corrected, don't worry. I had the same thing happen. Good luck

sounds like the electric co is being lazy and maybe just maybe her meter is broken.
Have her go to the electric company and demand an explanation. She may end up with one heck of a bill in the end if she doesn't. Good luck. =)
sounds like she should have not said anything if they didnt know how long it been she could have got away cheaper
This sounds like something that can turn real bad, real quick. She should write a letter to them stating how long it has been without a bill, how many times she has called them, and how long they have known that the meter doesn't work.

She should only have to pay for electricity she actually uses, not their estimate. So, they should be told in the letter to come and repair the meter immediately.

In the meantime, she should pay some amount to them on a regular basis to avoid having a large unpaid surprise. As for the last six months, it is nice of them to offer to take her past record as the amount, but she needs to get this offer in writing so they can't come back to her later.
