Common law name change?

I know common law name change is POSABLE though seldom used in the state of Michigan BUT what about in the state of Ohio?
I’m asking on behalf of a male-to-female transsexual trying to change her name. She has had trouble gaining access to a sympathetic judge and is looking to use common law as a means of sidestepping the judges ‘gender-phobia”.
