If you saw someone shoplifting in a shop. What would you do?
Answer:
Its a good question, but there are a few legal points to remember.
Its all well telling a store manager/staff but in the UK, only the person who witnessed the offence can make an arrest (unless you are a Police Officer)
You have to see the offender select the item, conceal the item, observe them, be sure they have not paid for the item and leave the last point of sale. (SCONE)
S = Select
C = Conceal
O = Observe
N = Non-payment
E = Exit
Then, and only then can a person make an arrest.
But, to be honest, I would just tell a manager and let the Police deal with it.
Depends on if they are old or not..I would leave them if they looked skint lol..
Depends on what it is they are steeling.
A car, call the police
A piece of candy, nothing really
Why steal property from other people when you can just vote Democrat and have the government do it for you?
i'd check for hidden cameras,
keep walking
I will tell them people that is a casher someone is shoplitfing
Have a quiet word with the shopkeeper or Security if supermarket, we all pay for shoplifters.
If it is a kid, I go up to them very quietly and tell them that I saw them, and let them put it back. I tell them that if I saw them, chances are good someone else did, and that jail is not a joke.
If it is a grown-up, I rat them out to the nearest employee I can find. I testify in court if I can.
It costs all of us money, because stores charge more to cover "shrinkage," which is theft, vandalism, and wear.
I would alert the retail staff. Shoplifting is one of the reasons our goods are so expensive! It is not a victimless crime.
i wont bother! its their life and personally the store must be having security in the store its their job to watch this all! i am there to shop!
Report them immediately - i loathe and detest thieves, i have had things stolen from my business and from my home. I work hard and don't appreciate this type of scum freeloading off me !
depends what they were stealing, their age, and whether i thought they would give me any trouble if i told on them
Report it to security.
I would let a store manager or clerk know, but quietly.shoplifting is a main contributor of rising prices, anyway I work hard for my money and if I have to obtain something by paying for it the same should go for everyone
i wouldnt do anythin, as long as its not me there takin things off then im fine and anywayzzz 1 day they'll be caught
I would tell the shop assistant. Its people like that who make things more expensive for all of us.
Depends on what they stole.
id mention it to a member of staff
If they looked poor and hungry - nothing.
If they were obviously just doing it for fun I'd tell on them.
Shop 'em!
DONT SAY ANYTHING! the corperation can take it, and for saying that shoplifting makes our goods cost more, the store is going to mantain the price they tack on for shoplifters whether or not they actually catch any of them, it doesnt matter if you say anything or not it will not help lower the corperations prices, hell put something in your pocket as well!
ignore it, these supermarkets make far too much money anyway!
I used to arrest them but now I just turn them in to the management.
Many retailers will reward for bringing it to their attention
I'd echo coshworth, although it would have been me that tipped security off.
depends if there foreign as cant rat on an english person
