Neighbor won't give my package back, WTF?

I live in a town home type complex, and I ordered something that was parishable and had to be overnighted, well I looked on the internet to see where my package was, and it was down the way at my neighbors. I go over there and knock, then have to leave a note. Guy calls me, says he will bring it over in 30 mins. Ok, so I waited. Calls me back and asked if he can bring it to my back door, I said No my front door works just fine. Then he doesn't show at all. So I call him. He says, Well I'm busy right now and gives me a load of crap. I won't let him come to my back door, so I don't get my package? BTW he sounds like an idiot on the phone, but come on, I live right down the street! DHL is now involved and he won't anwser the door for them either, and the delivery guy said he saw him look out the window.LOL! It's just a stupied package!
Is this illegal in some way? I mean he pretty much stole it, right?

Answers:
Call the police. He cannot keep property that is not his. And the shipping company should be liable for this. Call the original seller that you bought this from. It is up to him to track the package and make sure you get it if the police don't help you.

File a claim against him. DHL will back you up.
He is a crook!
Call the police. I don't understand why DHL has not contacted them. They delivered your package to his house, he signed for it. Ok, that's enough to prove he has it. If he claims to no longer have it, then he is liable for it as well as the condition of it.
I used to work in the delivery business. I would almost be afraid of getting the pkg from this loon, especially if he opened it. DHL will be responsible for the claim on the pkg if you call the place you ordered it from and tell them.

You can call the police, but it's almost not worth it. I would definately bring this fellow up at the next homeowners meeting.
If he signed for it, then he is responsible for the package, hiwever it is a civil matter, not criminal.
get the cops or some mafia ppl to make him sleep with the fishes for acting stupid
Seems like it should be illegal.
Yes, he is guilty of trying to steal your package, get onto DHL and give them dog's abuse for their mistake, they delivered the package to the wrong address, so it's on them to rectify "their" error, tell DHL, to fix the problem ASAP or you are going to expose them for their failure to comply with their guideline, policy's.
your courier service is responsible for the delivery of your package to you and not your neighbour .. you need to know your rights and you can file a complaint against your courier company with the law enforcement authorities . this is totally your courier companies fault ... you cannot hold your neighbour responsible since he didnt steal from your house ... the package was wrong delivered to him ... which is the courier companys fault.
That sounds really weird.

But it's theft if it's not addressed to him, and DHL is responsible if they gave it to the wrong person. Let the delivery company handle it -- they know who to call if the guy refuses to give it back.
My question is how did DHL deliver it to him in the first place...? seems to me DHL should stand up for "whatever" your product was, and replace it...unless it was reefer from Amsterdam...in which case your SOL...
Okay, but why should HE bring it over? This is YOUR package. Why don't YOU go over there and get it?
