Do most of you realize Hitler had the same idea?
Recently someone posted this question:
"Do you believe retarded people and those with major genetic diseases should not be allowed to procreate? Make a case for either side."
Unfortunately, everyone who answered said that they should not. Do you realize that this was Hitler's idea too? Sterilize the "unfit", the "human weeds"? He euthanized whole hospitals full of mentally disabled people. That is the logical conclusion if you take such an idea to its ultimate end.

Amazing how we don't seem to learn from the past.
Look up Eugenics and you might also be shocked to know that the US was, and probably still is, deeply involved in that sort of stuff. Although we have done it the US is still very small in comparison to the horrendous acts of Hitler and the Nazis.
Do you think it's a GOOD idea if those carrying genetic defects that lead to retardation have as many children as possible?
I laugh at the logic of some people: that we should get rid of people who they see as unfit.
Where does it end?
Those with mental conditions?
Gay people?
An unwanted gender?
It's sickening.
So did Margaret Sanger, who was a pioneer in advocating contraception and abortion in the US.
I strongly object to arguments favoring abortion because "there are too many people here already."
We have to come up with better solutions than that for our problems.
Look thats a moot point any way because no one is going to have sex with a retard. And im pretty sure no one i going to want to have a kid with someone wha has major genetic disease. So the question i stupid and your rebuttle is stupid.
Well, humans are the only species that protect their weak. Hitler and the folks who want to control procreation belong to the same group, but if humans were overly protective of the week, the flaw of nature would not carry forward. It is called survival of the fittest!
are you a retard or do you believe the muslum extreemeesest are going to win the war?
I wouldn't have answered that way if I had read that posted question.
Although if I knew I had a genetic disease I would choose not to pass on my genes, forbidding anyone - even those mentally disabled or genetically diseased - to procreate is a huge violation of human rights, and something I could NEVER support.
According to Darwin, our whole existence is here on earth for one reason: To pass our genetic material on. That is success. Just because a parent has a major genetic defect, does not mean that the offspring will have the disorder. There are literally billions of genetic combinations that can result depending on the trait and the other parent. The people that argued for sterilization are ignorant and lack knowledge in biology...and obviously human compassion. To take that unalienable right away, would be like Hitler's Nazi Germany.
Since the vast majority of the human population is retarded and mentally deficient (as demonstrated by the events on ANY day of the year) that would lead to the extinction of the species.
I am in favor of this because I fear the taint of humanity spreading and destroying the universe
That's a slippery slope argument, and I don't necessarily agree that it would lead to mass euthanization.
You should remember that not all of Hitler's ideas were bad, anyway. The extent to which he took them was. It's not necessarily wrong to disallow someone from reproducing. It is wrong to do what Hitler did, and murder millions of people just because of their lack of mental capacity, or because they had a congenital defect that would likely be passed on to offspring.
This is a difficult question. First of all, I disagree with your logic here. We should not reject an idea just because an evil person had it. Even a broken clock has the right time twice a day.
Compentency is the question. I personally feel that an incompentent person should not be given choices of this magnitude. If a person is competent, they need to be educated and fully informed before they make a bad decision.
I'm afraid such an idea tends to be advanced by people who haven't learned from history. I have heard people say "some people are so dumb, they shouldn't be allowed to reproduce." I cringe because they have no idea who they are echoing.
this is a complex issue and you make it sound like you have to be a Nazi and take it to their extremes if you consider the possibility of sterilization for the incompetent or having people with severe genetics issue not passing this gene on to their offspring.
sexual abuse of the mentally retarded does occur..the offspring has to be care for and that is by our tax dollars.
i don't pretend to know the solution to this issue but i would not commend someone as a Nazi who has valid considerations to explore possible solutions.
i am not putting forth any suggestions or solutions but i am suggesting that a thoughtful provoking look at the issue doesn't mean have to mean genocide is supported by those who question a solution.
It is interesting how so many women are so selective of the donor at sperm banks, yet we fail to see how this is a prime example of Eugenics "good genes".
I am not for forcing a surgery on a person unable to make that decision for him/herself, however if a person is under the care of the state, that person should be forced to use birth control. Why continue the cycle? I don't mean the cycle of mental illness either, I mean the cycle of being dependant on the government for survival.
i would not say they shouldnt be allowe dto reproduce, but i would recomend to them not to, its unfiar to your child if they are destined to get the disease to have them...its just a matter of what the case is.. u shouldnt generalize... it depends on the case adn circumstances... it all depends on if they are suffering or whats best for them. i agree with you, but there are some people that dont put themselves in others shoes and think things through. i wouldnt do any of that stuff... who are we to really decide who lives or dies... even retarded or mentally ill people can change the world
Breeding pleasures. The offspring is our past but you will find you could lose the next time you go to war. It's History My profile. Be hard and push my head. I'm in Canada. Only three scary questions.
When people decide that there is no G-d and that life is about survival of the fittest, they become quick to decide "who" is fittest.
Racism and genocide feed off this idea.
However, when people believe that every human soul is precious to G-d and made in His image, then people are not valued for how smart or beautiful or athletic or rich they are (as our culture hypes). People are valuable just because G-d made them.
Corrie ten boom (a woman who, together with her family -- for Yeshua's sake (Jesus) hid Jewish people and got them safely out of Nazi plans to destroy them) was captured by the Nazis for her work in saving Jewish lives. She also taught a Bible class for mentally handicapped children before the war. Once when she was being interrogated by a Nazi, he said that surely it was more important to bring the Gospel to one normal person than to a mentally handicapped person. She replied that in G-d's eyes, that mentally handicapped person might be more valuable than she was or than the Nazi was. Her words shocked the man, and he later tried to help her himself.
For an excellent account of how mentally handicapped people sometimes have a better grasp of who G-d is than the rest of us, see a small book Corrie wrote about the insights her mentally-handicapped children said that came from within them.

G-d takes pleasure in those who hope in His mercy, Ps. 147 says.
His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways.
the government currently isn't able to tell people that they can't have sex, two handicapped people can procreate if they choose to, recently there was a case of group of incest in arizona that are passing on genetic handicaps and no one can stop them...
I think it really is going into specific cases as to whether or not two people can have a child..it is very possible for two people who are handicapped to have a perfectly normal child. whether or not they can raise it without assistance is another story...I'm assuming many of the answers were along the lines of..we shouldn't have to support people who shouldn't be having kids...well truthfully..are we going to get rid of everyone who is just plain stupid too?...or people with back problems because thier kids will have back problems and cause future health care costs...it's a slippery slope if you argue that a certain group of people can't have children and with Hitler it went to far...It is that kind of thinking that keeps laws against two handicapped people procreating from being passed.
Please please tell me how...
"euthanized whole hospitals full of mentally disabled people"
Is the logical conclusion of...
not allowing "retarded people and those with major genetic diseases" to procreate.
Also, please describe to me how a person that is mentally deficient enough to require hospital care for survival is supposed to feed, clothe, provide shelter, and teach a child. Is it fair, even if the major genetic defect isn't passed-on, to produce children that can never learn from their own parents how to provide for themselves? Also, is it fair to bring children into a world where their parents will most likely die due to these "major genetic" defects before they reach adolescence?
I do not see how considering these very real circumstances logically leads to the conclusion of killing-off "whole hospitals full of mentally disabled people."
And yet we actually still have people who sympathize with Hitler right here on this question. Unbelievable.
