U.K Only trhanks need help from union Shop-stewards, Can a change be imposed to a contract without agreement?
My firm has for 29 years, allowed a shift brake after an 8 hour shift. if you are going to work another 4 hours. Now, It has been decided to stop this brake. I want to know if this comes under Custome and Practice. To justify Custome and Practice, you must fulfil 3 criteria 1/ It must be knowen, 2/ iIt must have been done for some time 3/ It must not be outrageous. we seem to fulfil thes'e, can you help?
Answers:
A change to the employment contract can be imposed with 3 months notice.
It is not quite clear exactly what change your employer wants to make but there are laws about breaks to which employees are entitled.
If you have union representation at the place where you work talk to your rep. If you haven't then your employer will in effect be able to do exactly as he pleases.
A great source of advice is the ACAS helpline

Are you a member of a Trades Union? If you are not, why ask for help from those to whose cause you do not contribute?
